An's Bakery 안스베이커리

This is the Guwol-dong flagship of An's Bakery, opened in 1993; its founder, An Chang-hyun, was named Korea's seventh master baker in 2009. The loaf to reach for first is the myeongran (pollock roe) baguette, with a chewy crust, a soft crumb and roe that is not too salty. The salt bread is chewy rather than shattering, and the garlic baguette and mammoth bread have been on the shelves for years. Fresh-cream cakes and celebration cakes are also made to order. Apart from the salt bread, prices run high.
