봉덕칼국수

Bongdeok Kalguksu is a decades-old shabu-shabu and kalguksu restaurant in Gwacheon, structured around a multi-course dining format. The meal begins with a bubbling pot of beef, water parsley, and mushrooms for shabu-shabu, followed by hand-pulled fresh noodles added directly to the enriched broth, and finishes with stir-fried rice made from the remaining flavors - effectively a three-act meal. At around 10,000 won per person, the progression from broth to noodles to rice offers exceptional value. The hand-pulled noodles are the highlight: thinner strands turn silky and tender while thicker sections provide a satisfying chew, all in the same bowl. The broth stays clean and flavorful without being overly stimulating. The only side dish is a single serving of geotjeori kimchi, but it is fresh and well-made - a point of pride for the owner, who also prepares all kimchi in-house. An identical branch exists in Uiwang with the same quality. The location near Seoul Grand Park and Gwacheon National Science Museum makes it a natural stop for families visiting those attractions. Weekend queues can be substantial, though parking space is adequate. There are no call bells - diners flag staff directly - and eating instructions are printed on a laminated sheet at each table. Clam kalguksu and barley rice are also available for those who prefer alternatives to the shabu-shabu format.
