Thick fillets of eel sit over rice in the hitsumabushi bowl near Maebong Station, but wasabi pickles and a spread of toppings take the place of the Japanese tea-broth finish. Eat a few bites of eel and rice plain, then add toppings one by one. Jangeo-gui, grilled eel, shows off the thickness and springy flesh more directly, and a warming tray beside the grill keeps cooked pieces from scorching. Shiitake in wasabi sauce, spicy janchi guksu noodles and cold kimchi-mari noodles cut through the richness. The dining room is quiet, with on-site parking and paid valet.
