Jangeoui Kkum is the greater Seoul metropolitan area's premier eel restaurant, located on Sunhwagung-ro in Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province, and a consistent fixture in the top ranks of national restaurant recommendation apps. With over four thousand reviews, its reputation is firmly established, and weekend waits routinely stretch to two or three hours. The ordering system is distinctive: arrive before the 11 AM opening to pull a numbered ticket, then select pre-cleaned eel from a refrigerated display case on the first floor, pay at the register, and receive a table number for seating on the first or second floor. A per-person table-setting fee of four thousand won is charged separately, and each table comes pre-equipped with quality charcoal and basic side dishes. Diners grill the eel themselves, and selecting smaller, white-fleshed eels without visible blood yields the plumpest, most resilient texture. At roughly thirty-seven thousand won per kilogram of cleaned eel, the value is remarkable — eating to complete fullness often results in a per-person total in the low twenty-thousand-won range. The self-service bar offers unlimited myeong-i namul (wild garlic) and pickled perilla leaves, and wrapping grilled eel in these prevents palate fatigue across extended eating. Ginger and raw garlic are available for personal seasoning. To finish the meal, the chilled doenjang-jjigae with small crabs and the tangy yeolmu-guksu (five thousand won) are essential orders that cut cleanly through the eel's richness. The jangeo-tang (nine thousand won) tastes similar to chueotang and is decent but not indispensable. A dedicated parking lot is available, and pets are welcome. The kitchen closes around 9 PM with full closure at 10 PM, and visiting near closing time risks being pressured to vacate during the meal, so arriving well before the cutoff is strongly recommended.
