Gosami 고삼이

Gosami is a Korean restaurant on Yonsei-ro 7-an-gil in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, centered on grilled Spanish mackerel and mackerel. Longtime customers describe eating the same core dishes since their university years in Sinchon, and fish is continuously grilled at the front of the restaurant where the cooking process and aroma are immediately apparent. The salted Spanish mackerel is notably large, with repeated accounts describing one fish as enough for two people to share alongside another dish. Its flesh is relatively lean, firm, and mild. Grilled mackerel provides a clear contrast: the meat stays soft, moist, and richer in oil, while the cooked surface contributes a deeper roasted flavor. A dipping sauce combining soy sauce and wasabi adds salt and a sharp edge to the fatty fish. Stir-fried squid is the other major dish. Thick, plump pieces are cooked over strong heat, picking up a smoky aroma beneath a dense gochujang-based sauce. Although the sauce is bright red, it is described as neither extremely hot nor notably sweet. The amount of squid is substantial enough that pieces can remain after the accompanying rice is finished. Sundubu jjigae adds a hot, savory, moderately spicy broth to the table and separates bites of grilled fish from the thicker squid sauce. For a shared meal, Spanish mackerel or mackerel can be paired with the squid and tofu stew instead of repeating the same large fish. Bulgogi is another group option, adding meat to a table already divided between grilled fish, spicy seafood, and soup. Dishes are often served quickly, reinforcing the character of a straightforward Sinchon set-meal restaurant. The side dishes are generally described as solid and familiar rather than elaborate. One practical tradeoff is the strong fish smell around the entrance and street-facing grill. The restaurant's identity comes from contrasts within an uncomplicated meal: moist oily mackerel against leaner Spanish mackerel, smoky squid against clear tofu broth, and a very large grilled fish balanced by smaller shared dishes.
