Eunjujeong 은주정

Near Gwangjang Market. A kimchi-jjigae specialist near Bangsan Market in Euljiro, Jung-gu, that has been operating since 1986. When the surrounding packaging shops close for the night and the alley darkens, this restaurant remains the sole light, having served as a reliable meal stop for local merchants and office workers for nearly four decades. The stew contains such a staggering amount of pork that it is often described less as a kimchi-jjigae restaurant and more as a braised-pork establishment, the deeply fermented, sour kimchi and tender, slow-simmered pork create a rich harmony of flavors. The ssam vegetable spread is remarkably generous, including minari (water parsley), angelica, and bok choy alongside standard greens, with enough volume to skip refills entirely. The house method of wrapping the stewed pork and kimchi together in the greens adds a textural and flavor dimension unique to this restaurant. Rice refills are complimentary, and at 12,000 won per person the overall value is exceptional by Seoul standards. After 5 PM, the menu shifts to a dinner format pairing 150g of samgyeopsal with kimchi jjigae, and Onnuri gift certificates are accepted for a discount. The banchan is modest but honest in flavor, and the portions are generous enough to leave two adult men comfortably full. Air conditioning coverage can be uneven during summer, leaving some seats warmer than others.
