동강오리
Donggang Ori is a duck specialty restaurant on the main road of Mangu-dong in Seoul's Jungnang-gu district, located between Mangu Station and Yangwon Station. It has built a devoted following among local residents over many years. The signature dish, tongmaneul ori-jumulleok, features duck marinated in a house-made sauce with generous whole garlic cloves, then grilled over natural charcoal at the table. The result is meat with a crispy exterior and juicy, flavorful interior. A half-duck portion comfortably feeds two, and adding a mushroom supplement brings extra volume and depth to the meal. Every grilled order comes with a complimentary duck soup served in a rich, slightly spicy broth reminiscent of maeuntang, providing a satisfying contrast to the smoky grilled meat. Deodeok-gui, grilled mountain root, is available as a side and develops a natural sweetness on the flame that pairs well with the savory duck. Stone pot rice arrives fluffy and slightly crispy at the edges, and the ssam vegetable selection includes fresh chamnamul greens and water parsley. After the meal, guests help themselves to plum extract and sujeongwa, a traditional cinnamon-persimmon punch, set out near the entrance. The kitchen effectively manages to minimize any gamey aroma, making the restaurant approachable for diners unfamiliar with duck. Takeout orders are also available, and some regulars bring the food to camping sites for outdoor meals. The spacious seating arrangement and relaxed atmosphere make it a frequent choice for family gatherings and small group dinners.
