Daeseongjip is a long-established doganitang (ox knee cartilage soup) specialist situated on Sajik-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, near Dongnimmun Station. Its location directly across from Seodaemun Prison History Museum and the Independence Gate makes it a natural pairing with a historical walking tour. The signature doganitang features a milky-white yet clean broth that delivers a refined savory flavor from the very first spoonful, and even the regular portion at 13,000 won arrives with a generous amount of dogani that might be mistaken for the large size. The cartilage pieces are satisfyingly bouncy with bits of lean meat clinging to them, providing pleasant textural variety, and adding garlic pickled in gochujang introduces an extra layer of umami to the mild broth. Three side dishes, kkakdugi, kimchi, and garlic stems, are cleanly prepared and well balanced, with the kimchi proving an especially strong companion to the soup. The large size at 17,000 won contains roughly 20 to 30 percent more ingredients, but the regular provides ample volume on its own. The owner and staff maintain a warm, attentive demeanor, occasionally offering complimentary boiled pork to families with young children. Around 12:30 on weekends, approximately 20 people may be queued, but without a formal waiting system, simply standing in line, and the fast turnover allows entry in about 20 minutes. Parking is available for four to five cars in the sidewalk area in front of the restaurant, and the establishment has gained additional recognition through television food programs.
