Seoul Haejangguk is a haejangguk (hangover soup) restaurant near Yisunsin Square in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province. In continuous operation since 1982 and now run by the third generation, it has earned its standing as a cornerstone of the local dining scene. The signature seonji haejangguk features a deeply flavored, clear broth made from carefully simmered hanwoo (Korean beef) bones, combined with fresh blood curd and crunchy bean sprouts without any off-putting odor. The menu extends to kongnamul haejangguk, dwaeji gukbap, sundubu jjigae, and kimchi jjigae, offering broad selection to suit different tastes. The kimchi jjigae uses aged domestic kimchi for a rich, punchy broth loaded with pork, while the sundubu jjigae incorporates clams that infuse it with oceanic umami. A notable specialty is the seodaehoe-muchim (seasoned raw flatfish), featuring chewy, non-fishy flatfish flesh tossed with julienned pear and vegetables in a sweet-spicy dressing that works excellently over rice. Each diner receives two complimentary fried eggs with their meal, with additional eggs available free of charge upon request. Rice and side dishes including kimchi, kkakdugi, and stir-fried anchovies are available for unlimited refills at the self-service bar. Complimentary coffee is also provided after the meal. Staff are generally courteous throughout, and the spacious table layout means seating is typically available immediately even on busy weekdays. The restaurant opens early in the morning, making it suitable for breakfast or hangover recovery, and ordering naengsu-yuk (cold boiled meat) as a drinking snack alongside makgeolli is also an option. While no dedicated parking lot exists, a nearby public parking facility provides convenient access.
