Seongbukdong Myeonokjip is a naengmyeon and galbi-jjim restaurant on Daesagwan-ro in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, nestled in the tranquil embassy district of Seongbuk-dong. The restaurant serves Hamheung-style thin noodles in two forms: hoe-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon. The hoe-naengmyeon features pencil-thin noodles tossed in a savory, umami-rich sauce, garnished with slices of fresh pollack and crisp pear that add textural contrast. The bibim-naengmyeon pairs well with the osek-mandu (five-color dumplings), which contain a light vegetable filling. Galbi-jjim is the other signature dish, braised in a soy-based sauce that achieves depth without aggression. The wang-galbi-jjim presents an imposing visual, and the meat is so tender it slides off the bone effortlessly. Even the membrane attached to the rib bone is soft enough to eat, and the braised onions alongside provide a particularly harmonious pairing. The standard dining sequence at this restaurant involves ordering naengmyeon or fried rice toward the end of the galbi-jjim course as a finishing touch. The freshly pan-fried assorted jeon also receives consistent praise. The dining area spans two floors, and the restaurant offers wine corkage free of charge with only a 3,000 won glass charge per person. Parking is valet-only at 3,000 won. Weekends bring waits, but table turnover is reasonably fast. Orders are placed via table kiosks, with payment handled at the counter upon departure. After the meal, Seongbuk-dong Bread Factory sits right next door for dessert, and the walking route toward Samcheonggak and Samcheong Tunnel offers a pleasant post-meal stroll.
