Haenyeo Village 해녀촌

Haenyeochon is a raw-fish noodle and sea-urchin noodle restaurant on the coast of Dongbok-ri in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City. It occupies two buildings, an older structure and a newer addition, with sea-facing windows that frame the waves directly in front of the village. Hoe-guksu is served on a large platter using medium-thick wheat noodles, slices of white fish, and a loose chojang-style sauce. Diners mix the components by hand with a plastic glove so the sweet, tangy seasoning spreads across both fish and noodles. The sauce emphasizes acidity and sweetness rather than strong heat or salt. Soft noodles and resilient raw fish retain noticeably different textures after mixing, and the wide plate leaves enough room to fold the ingredients together thoroughly. Seongge-guksu moves in the opposite direction. It places sea urchin over medium-thick noodles in a warm, savory broth, replacing the chilled mixed-noodle format with soup. The broth carries a saline seafood character, while the sea urchin adds a softer texture and a concentrated ocean aroma. Ordering the two noodle dishes together puts cool, tangy sauce beside warm broth and makes their differences clear. Grilled mackerel adds flaky fish and browned skin without an aggressively salty seasoning. Octopus and abalone porridge also appear among the seafood choices. The porridge is a mild, soft grain dish, unlike the springy raw fish or the firm pieces of octopus. Singer Sung Si-kyung featured the restaurant in his food video series, which brought the Dongbok-ri location to a wider audience. Inside, the view depends on the table and building, but the coastal side opens directly toward the sea. Large noodle platters, soup bowls, and grilled fish occupy the table while waves remain visible through the windows. The restaurant's setting belongs to the eastern Jeju shoreline that continues toward Hamdeok, Gimnyeong, and Woljeong-ri. Its menu stays closely tied to that setting through raw fish, sea urchin, mackerel, octopus, and abalone. Rather than presenting all seafood in one preparation, it separates them into a cold mixed noodle, a warm noodle soup, a grilled fish, and a gentle porridge.
