Jogae Pocha 조개포차

Jogae Pocha is a grilled-shellfish restaurant on Oido-ro in Siheung, facing the waterfront. Its central format places an assortment of shellfish on a tabletop grill, with additional servings available as part of the unlimited option. Each shell opens over the heat and retains a small amount of broth around the meat. The textures range from firm and springy to soft, while the flavor moves between sea salt and the natural sweetness of cooked shellfish. Because the assortment changes from shell to shell, some pieces taste more saline and others carry a milder, sweeter finish. A combination that includes raw fish sets cool, smooth slices beside the hot shells. The sashimi is accompanied by chojang, a red chile-vinegar sauce, wasabi, and a small amount of radish sprouts. The shellfish remains in its shell until it cooks, so much of the meal takes place around the grill as diners watch the liquid bubble and remove each piece at a different point. Tteokbokki and meat arrive among the opening side dishes, adding chewy rice cakes, red sauce, and grilled meat to the seafood spread. Foil-wrapped sides warm on the same grill without direct contact with the flame. Their moist texture differs from the exposed shellfish and from the browned surfaces of the meat.
