Yetteo 옛터

Yetteo is a multi-building dining and cultural complex at 361-1 Haso-dong in Dong-gu, Daejeon, combining a Korean restaurant, traditional tea space, Western dining building, garden, walking paths, and a small museum. The Korean menu centers on seok galbi, galbitang, bibimbap, pajeon, and doenjang stew. A separate building serves hamburger steak and pasta. Seok galbi removes the meat from the rib bone and grills it for eating with rice and soybean-paste stew. Galbitang places a generous amount of tender rib meat in a clear broth cooked over time. Bibimbap mixes vegetables and gochujang through rice, while pajeon supplies a pan-fried dish that several diners can divide. In the Western building, hamburger steak combines a ground-meat patty and sauce on one plate, giving companions who do not want a traditional Korean main another option without leaving the grounds. After the meal, diners can move to the tea building rather than ordering tea at the same table. Firewood-roasted sweet potatoes are also sold separately. The maintained garden, short paths, and small museum connect the buildings. Walking for roughly thirty minutes to an hour allows time to see the grounds and exhibits before or after eating. The firewood area in the front yard creates a place to sit near the flames on winter evenings. From spring through autumn, flowers and greenery become the central garden features. Rain changes the appearance of the timber buildings and paths while keeping the meal, tea, and museum within one site. Prices are higher than at a simple single-dish restaurant because the food uses numerous ingredients and the property includes several maintained spaces. The layout therefore makes more sense when the party decides in advance whether tea, the garden, or the museum belongs in the visit rather than using the site only for a quick plate. With an international guest, a sequence of seok galbi or bibimbap, traditional tea, and a walk through the grounds places Korean food and spatial elements in one route. The first decision is Korean or Western food. The next is whether tea comes before the museum walk or after it, which prevents the separate buildings from becoming an unplanned detour.
