Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu Namhangjin is a branch of the renowned Samgyori Dongchimi Makguksu brand, located directly on Namhangjin Beach in Gangneung, Gangwon-do. The restaurant was started by a sister of the original founder and has been operated by her son since 2015. It has earned a reputation that some consider equal to or better than the original location, and local Gangneung residents frequently recommend it. A recent interior renovation has refreshed the dining space, and the ocean view from the tables is a significant part of the appeal. The dongchimi makguksu follows the traditional Yeongdong-region style of buckwheat noodles served in fermented radish water broth, a preparation that has actually become uncommon in modern Gangneung. The broth carries a mild sweetness, but adding vinegar and mustard at the table masks it effectively, transforming the flavor into something bright and refreshing. The noodles have a pleasant chewiness that prevents the slippery texture found at some competitors. The hoe makguksu is a bibim-style version with a sauce that leans noticeably sweet, so mixing in a bit of dongchimi broth is the recommended adjustment. The memil jeonbyeong (buckwheat pancake, also called chongddeok) is crispy with a nutty oil flavor that pairs naturally with the clean dongchimi makguksu, while the memil mandu combines with hoe makguksu to recreate a nostalgic bibim naengmyeon-and-dumpling pairing. Suyuk (boiled pork) is a popular addition visible at many tables, though some visitors note a dry texture. The complimentary yeolmu kimchi is an unexpectedly strong match for makguksu, with frequent refill requests. Two makguksu bowls and one suyuk plate total approximately 50,000 won, placing the price point on the higher side. Free parking is available in the beachfront lot directly outside, and food typically arrives within five to ten minutes of ordering.
