Hoengseong Chukhyeop Hanwoo Plaza Bonjeom is the flagship hanwoo beef restaurant operated by the Hoengseong livestock cooperative, located on Hoengseong-ro in the heart of Hoengseong County, Gangwon-do, the region most closely associated with premium Korean beef. The building houses a Hanaro Mart on the ground floor and the restaurant on the second, and two distinct dining formats are available. Guests can select and purchase cuts at the first-floor butcher counter, then carry them upstairs to grill over charcoal at a self-service table. Alternatively, the menu-order course option on the second floor provides a more curated experience, with staff grilling each cut to order in private room-style seating, a format that consistently receives higher satisfaction marks for both meat quality and service. Cuts are available in 200-gram packages, a sizing that makes it practical to sample multiple parts of the animal in a single sitting: salchisal, anchangsal, eopjinsal, chaekkkeut, and ansim among them. The charcoal-grilled hanwoo delivers a burst of juice on the first bite and melts with a tenderness that justifies the trip. A complimentary yukhoe appetizer arrives with a freshness so pronounced it dissolves on the tongue. Course menus begin at 39,000 won, with the Bushi assortment and Wonderful assortment being the most popular selections. Side dishes include galbitang and bibim naengmyeon, the latter arriving with significant heat. The doenjang jjigae at 3,000 won is available as an add-on but receives mixed reviews for its plainness. Dessert is a cup of sujeonggwa, sweet, clean, and a fitting close. Per-person costs typically exceed 60,000 won, placing this at the higher end of the dining spectrum, but the quality of Hoengseong-certified hanwoo tends to leave guests feeling the expenditure was proportionate. The restaurant is clean, equipped with private rooms suitable for group gatherings or business dinners, and staff manage the grilling with attentive timing and technique.
