Gwang-eoda is a flatfish specialty restaurant in Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju, operating its own large-scale flatfish farm directly behind the building. Fish go from farm to kitchen with virtually no transit stress, eliminating any trace of fishiness and ensuring peak freshness that surpasses what most sashimi restaurants can achieve. The sashimi is sliced thick, delivering a bouncy yet tender bite that grows sweeter with each chew. Despite being farm-raised rather than wild-caught, the quality leaves nothing to be desired. The signature gwangeo-tangsuyeo, battered and fried flatfish, is the standout dish, with thick fillets staying moist inside a crispy coating that bears no resemblance to ordinary fish cutlets. A lemon-accented sweet sauce complements the fish cleanly, and wrapping pieces in lettuce adds another dimension of flavor and texture. The flatfish miyeokguk earns praise across all age groups for its rich, deeply savory broth, and flatfish sushi is also available on the menu. Pricing is reasonable, with two diners able to enjoy a generous meal including drinks for around 70,000 won. Originally popular primarily among Jeju residents, the restaurant's growing reputation has attracted increasing numbers of tourists, leading to waits that were not previously common. Reservations are not accepted; only walk-in queuing is available. Arriving after 6 PM risks both lengthy waits and sold-out ingredients, so an early visit is strongly recommended for the full menu selection.
