Gohyang Nadeuri 고향나들이

Gohyang Nadeuri is a duck restaurant inside a recreation area at 557 Simgok-ri, Sinbuk-myeon, Pocheon. A meal follows a defined sequence: a whole or half duck is cooked on the tabletop grill, duck-bone soup follows the meat, and sotbap closes the table. Portion accounts vary with appetite, but a whole duck has been shared by two or three adults with a child and also by a group of four. A half duck has fed two adults and a child, while another pair still had meat to pack. Thin potato slices cook on the same pan as the duck. They sit in contact with the rendered duck fat while developing a grilled surface and can be placed in the same leafy wrap as the meat or eaten separately. Leafy wraps, vegetables, sauces, and the limited selection of banchan are collected from a self-service counter, allowing each table to refill only what it uses. The spread therefore concentrates on duck, potato, wraps, and condiments rather than adding a long series of unrelated side dishes. After the grilled meat, the kitchen brings a soup made with duck bones. Its spicy, substantial broth has been compared with a point between maeuntang and gamjatang, meaning it carries elements associated with Korean spicy fish stew and pork-backbone stew without being either dish. Leftover meat and soup can be packed for another meal. The sotbap consists of sticky white rice cooked in a hot pot, followed by the browned rice crust remaining at the bottom. The dining room is large and functional, with many tables and an atmosphere closer to a high-volume meat restaurant than a decorated intimate room. The recreation-area setting also gives the meal a different physical context from a street-front shop. The sequence is easiest to understand as three stages: grill duck and potatoes, refill wraps and side dishes from the self-service area, then divide the bone soup and hot-pot rice. This format accommodates a family or group sharing one central order while still controlling vegetables, sauces, and the amount carried away.
