A spicy galbi-jjim restaurant in Ildong-myeon, Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do, situated in a district dense with military bases and cherished for decades as a rite of passage for soldiers on leave. The walls are blanketed with handwritten messages from visiting servicemembers, testifying to the restaurant's long history, and the establishment was notably featured on a broadcast where food columnist Heo Yeongman explained that virtually every soldier in the area's bases has eaten here. The menu is straightforward, consisting of spicy galbi-jjim and ox-knee-bone galbitang. Each person receives an individual stone pot filled with tender braised ribs in a sweet-spicy sauce, with udon noodles tucked at the bottom for a satisfying added element. Spice levels span four stages from mild to extreme: the mild version emphasizes sweetness, the medium introduces a pleasant kick, and the highest level matches roughly three times the heat of Buldak ramen, requiring genuine commitment. The self-service bar offers somyeon noodles, bean sprouts, and rice cake to add into the broth as desired, easily stretching the meal into a filling feast. Complimentary sikhye (sweet rice drink) is available after the meal, providing welcome relief from the heat. The veteran staff keep table turnover brisk, but lines form from opening at 11 a.m. onward, and waits are unavoidable during lunch hours and weekends. The parking lot is relatively small and congested, so arriving slightly off-peak is advisable.
