Geumsugangsan Makguksu 금수강산막국수

A makguksu (buckwheat noodle) restaurant in Seo-myeon, Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do, located near Vivaldi Park (Sono Felice) resort and long regarded as the top dining choice among visitors to the area. The bibim-makguksu features a moderately sweet seasoning with a hint of perilla oil and good umami depth - adding the dadegi (spicy paste) transforms it dramatically, expanding the flavor into something bold and intense. The mul-makguksu comes in a clear, refreshing broth with a subtle soy-sauce base and dadegi served on top, allowing diners to adjust the spice level to taste. The buckwheat noodles add a wholesome, nutty quality. The gamjajeon (potato pancake) is a standout: crispy on the outside with a satisfyingly chewy interior, its warmth and richness provide an excellent counterpoint to the cold noodles, especially when paired with yeolmu-kimchi (young radish kimchi). The suyuk (boiled pork) is mildly sweet with balanced seasoning, and ginger notes keep any greasiness in check, served alongside mu-mallaengi (dried radish strips). The deulkkae-gamja-ongsimi (perilla seed potato dumpling soup) is another worthy addition, offering a nutty broth with pleasantly chewy potato dumplings. Ordering is done via kiosk with prepayment at the table, and a free coffee vending machine near the exit provides a nice post-meal finish. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable, making it ideal for a satisfying meal near the resort. Summer peak season brings waiting lines, though winter visits are typically queue-free.
