300m from Chungmuro Station. A British-style cafe and wine bar on the fourth floor of a narrow Euljiro building, run by its English owner. There is no sign on the building exterior, making it somewhat tricky to find, and reaching the space requires climbing steep, narrow stairs, but once through the door, the room opens into a warm, intimate setting decorated with antiques brought over from England and accompanied by old British music. Scones are the house specialty, served with butter and strawberry jam, crisp on the outside, moist within, done the proper British way. The sticky toffee pudding arrives warm with ice cream on top, achieving a deeply satisfying sweet harmony, and the lemon pound cake is a hidden favorite. French-press tea comes with unlimited hot-water refills at a reasonable price, encouraging a leisurely visit. The space transitions from daytime cafe to evening wine bar, with distinctive cocktails also available. The owner communicates in endearingly imperfect Korean with genuine warmth and pays close attention to each guest. With some luck, the cafe's resident dog may make an appearance during the visit.
