Near Daehangno. A wood-fired pizza institution in Daehak-ro that has been operating since 1998, taking its name from Antica Pizzeria Di Matteo which has been making Neapolitan pizza since 1936, and credited as one of the first to introduce this style to Korea. Walking in past the massive oven immediately sets an Italian mood, and the restaurant is also known for being operated by a former entertainment industry figure. The thin dough is satisfyingly chewy with a clean, oven-baked character, letting each ingredient speak for itself, no dipping sauce is needed. The signature ricotta cheese pizza features freshly sliced cheese placed atop the pizza and grated at the table, creating a memorable presentation. The margherita remains a benchmark with its simple combination of tomato base, cheese, and basil. The Almais pizza offers an unexpected appeal with its salty, nutty corn flavor. Pasta is equally accomplished, with the seafood tomato pasta and cream pasta both earning strong reviews. Desserts including sorbet and tiramisu have been described as spectacular. The restaurant pairs well with beer or wine, though corkage is 25,000 won. Prices lean high, but over two decades of consistent quality and atmosphere have made this a proven classic, and the use of serving robots adds a novel operational touch.
