Deokhwawon is a Chinese restaurant in Deokjeong-dong, Yangju, operated by ethnic Chinese proprietors for over 50 years. This long-standing establishment holds the Hundred-Year Restaurant designation from the Korean government. The signature gan-jajang features onions stir-fried to order, offering a natural sweetness that complements the savory black bean paste. Unlike many modern versions, the sauce remains mild and nutty rather than overly sweet or salty, accompanied by thick cuts of pork and a distinct wok char. Gan-jajang and its seafood version require a minimum of two servings, making regular jajangmyeon the choice for solo diners. The jjamppong broth is spicy and clean without excessive artificial seasoning. Tangsuyuk comes with thin batter and pre-applied sauce, while the denpura - peppered fried meat served without sauce - pairs well with beer. Pan-fried dumplings are another staple often ordered for takeout. Although the storefront appears modest, the interior extends deep into the building with several private rooms for groups.
