Daecheong Maru, situated in Nohak-dong, Sokcho, Gangwon Province, distinguishes itself among the densely packed Chodang sundubu (soft tofu) district through its large-scale premises and relatively spacious parking facilities. An additional parking lot across the road and an on-site parking attendant make arriving by car considerably less stressful than at neighboring tofu restaurants. The signature offerings are sundubu and spicy eolkeun sundubu, both prepared with domestic soybeans to achieve a smooth, nutty flavor. The spicy version incorporates clams and shrimp with restrained seasoning, resulting in a gentle, stomach-friendly meal. Ordering the grilled dried pollack set delivers a chewy yet crispy hwangtae accompanied by a milky pollack soup and pureed soybean, forming a substantial spread. The pollack hangover soup works well as a lighter standalone meal, and the tofu with stir-fried kimchi is frequently cited as a standout. Side dishes are neatly presented with mild seasoning, including items like acorn jelly. A kiosk ordering system has been implemented for convenience. Pricing may register as tourist-area level, and impressions diverge considerably depending on which menu item is chosen. The pan-fried tofu uses imported soybeans, which is worth noting. The restaurant also functions as a suitable early morning dining option before heading to the Seoraksan cable car, and the large capacity combined with rapid food delivery ensures high table turnover.
