섭죽마을
A restaurant in Sokcho specializing in seop (the local dialect for mussels), originally established in the Daepo-dong seafood district before relocating to its current spot across from Cheoksan Hot Springs in Nohak-dong. With a loyal following spanning over 15 years, the house builds its menu around mussels harvested from the waters off Sokcho. The seop-haejang-guk is a spicy yet clean-flavored hangover soup that warms the stomach effectively, while the seop-juk (mussel porridge) offers a gentler option - well-cooked porridge infused with deep shellfish umami that soothes rather than stimulates. Both mild and spicy versions of the porridge are available, along with a clear-broth variation. Timing matters: visiting during mussel season (roughly autumn through winter) yields plump, tender shellfish and a noticeably richer broth, whereas off-season visits may find smaller, chewier mussels with less intensity. The banchan lineup is strong - stir-fried fish cake and kkakdugi stand out - and the house-made squid jeotgal is mild enough that some diners purchase jars to take home. Mild porridge options make the restaurant suitable for families with young children, and guests staying at nearby resorts sometimes visit as a breakfast alternative. Weekend crowds can build, so arriving slightly ahead of peak hours is advisable.
