Yurim 유림

Yurim is a native-breed chicken dakdoritang (braised spicy chicken stew) restaurant on Gonghang-daero 71-gil in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, with a long operating history near the airport. The restaurant previously occupied an older building at the base of a hillside, lending it a nostalgic atmosphere that was partially lost when it relocated to newer premises, though the food remains the draw. The dakdoritang uses native Korean chicken, which gives the meat a distinctly chewy, springy bite that sets it apart from standard poultry, making even the breast portions enjoyable. The thick, stew-like broth carries herbal undertones and is loaded with well-cooked potatoes and fresh vegetables. Even the regular spice level registers as notably hot, so diners sensitive to heat should plan accordingly. Despite the intensity, the flavor has a deeply addictive quality that lingers in memory, with a sweet-spicy profile reminiscent of tteokbokki seasoning that evokes a sense of college-era comfort food. Sticky rice (chalbap) comes as the default accompaniment and tastes good on its own, though its dense texture prevents the broth from soaking in the way plain white rice would for mixing. The finishing fried rice, made with the remaining sauce, is a mandatory final course. The dongchimi (radish water kimchi) is excellent, and the side dishes are fresh and clean. Neungi-hanbang-ori, a medicinal duck dish with neungi and white wood ear mushrooms served alongside grain rice, also appears on the menu. Orders start at one whole chicken, which may be excessive for two diners, and pricing is considered high by Seoul standards. Takeout demand remains consistent. The parking area is small, and the surrounding neighborhood is known for complaints about street parking, so arriving early to secure a spot in the restaurant lot is strongly recommended.
