유포리 막국수

Situated in a quiet corner outside Chuncheon, this makguksu specialist delivers the kind of rustic, homestyle buckwheat noodles that feel like eating at a countryside grandmother's kitchen. The high buckwheat content gives the noodles a distinctive snap-when-you-bite texture with an earthy grain fragrance. The noodles arrive on a base of perilla oil with soy seasoning sauce, sesame, and seaweed flakes, and you choose whether to eat them mixed or with the cold broth poured over. The dongchimi served alongside is the real secret weapon, quite different from standard versions with its pickled radish tang that is addictively tart and sweet. The half-and-half combination of potato pancake and mung bean pancake was excellent, with the mung bean version ground exceptionally fine for a deep nuttiness. The boiled pork was tender and clean-tasting too. Portions are generous enough that upgrading to the large size may be unnecessary. Parking is spacious but the access road is narrow, so mind your car width. Lunchtime brings a wait, so visiting before 11 AM or after 2 PM is recommended.
