옛날우렁이식당
A freshwater snail (ureong-i) specialty restaurant in Sinpyeong-myeon, Dangjin, Chungcheongnam-do, located near the Sapgyoho tourist area. The original location was featured on KBS 2TV's Saengsaeng Jeongbo, and the brand also operates a second branch near Dangjin Bus Terminal and a third by Dangjin Arts Center. Ordering the Yetnal Ureong Jeongsik (signature set) brings a full table: two types of snail ssamjang (one mild with ground perilla seeds for a rich nuttiness, one spicy with a salty-pungent kick), snail vinegar salad, snail doenjang jjigae, and stir-fried pork. Both ssamjang varieties and the jjigae contain generous amounts of snail meat. The vinegar-dressed snails are plump and bouncy, served in ample portions. Lettuce and other ssam vegetables come in sufficient quantity to wrap everything without running short. The stir-fried pork uses a soy-based seasoning with mild sweetness and is included in the set at no extra charge. Rice arrives freshly cooked with a glossy sheen, pairing well with the array of dishes. The dining room is spacious and clean, with ample parking on-site. First-time visitors should note that the access road can be confusing - careful navigation is recommended. The restaurant makes an ideal lunch or dinner stop for travelers driving along the west coast.
