Yeonginsan Maru is a restaurant specializing in ureong-ssambap (freshwater snail wrap rice) at the foot of Yeonginsan mountain in Yeongin-myeon, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do. The quality of its snail-centered cuisine is high enough that many consider it worthy of a dedicated trip from Seoul, and on weekends the combination of hikers, travelers, and local residents can produce waits of twenty minutes or more. The set meal, priced per person, arrives as an overwhelming spread: ureong-muchim (seasoned snail salad), ureong-twigim (fried snails), ganjang-ureong-jang (soy-marinated snails), ureong-ssamjang (snail wrap paste), ureong-doenjang-jjigae (snail soybean paste stew), jeyuk-bokkeum (stir-fried pork), kodari-gangjeong (glazed semi-dried pollock), six standard banchan, and a platter of fresh ssam greens, delivering exceptional value for the price. The centerpiece is the ureong-ssamjang, which avoids excessive saltiness while containing a generous amount of snails, producing a rich, savory paste that pairs beautifully with the fresh greens. The combination of kongbiji (soybean pulp) and snails creates an unexpectedly distinctive flavor. The ureong-muchim is well-marinated and functions as an excellent rice accompaniment, while the ganjang-ureong-jang offers a subtle wasabi undertone that gives it a unique edge. The jeyuk-bokkeum holds its own as a standalone dish and wraps well with the ssam vegetables. Most items and ssam greens are refillable, with jeyuk-bokkeum available for one refill. Although the banchan is pre-prepared, it arrives reheated and warm, a thoughtful touch, and each dish carries genuine flavor rather than serving as mere filler. Staff are notably welcoming, cheerfully fulfilling ssam green refill requests. Parking is available behind the restaurant, with additional curbside spots along the road. The location also makes it a natural stop after visiting Yeonginsan Natural Recreation Forest.
