I had the loin katsu and cheese ball katsu at this famous tonkatsu shop in Seogwipo, Jeju. The loin was free of any pork odor and so tender it practically melted, while the crust delivered an intensely crispy bite reminiscent of fried chicken. The tenderloin required almost no chewing, and splitting the cheese ball katsu revealed a satisfying combination of crunch, nuttiness, and salty melted cheese in a single mouthful. Dipping in the provided Indian sesame added a toasty depth. The curry had a mild aroma that complemented rather than competed with the katsu. However, the restaurant operates on a full self-service model where you fetch your own food and return your tray, and weekday waits of two hours or more are common. The cheese katsu sells out unless you arrive early in the morning. Parking is very limited, so roadside parking nearby is often necessary. Table turnover is fast, with three to four tables clearing every five minutes.
