뚝방국수

Ttukbang Guksu is a noodle restaurant on the riverbank in Damyang-eup, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do, set apart from the main Damyang noodle street yet drawing a steady stream of locals. The yeolmu-bibim-guksu (spicy bibim noodles with young radish kimchi) is the star of the menu, offering a tangy-sweet depth that improves further when tossed with the complimentary seaweed flakes and bean sprouts at the table. The myeolchi-gungmul-guksu (anchovy broth noodles) features a rich, clean broth with thinly sliced raw onion for added crunch, and the noodles - somewhere between somyeon and jungmyeon in thickness - hold a pleasantly springy texture. If the bibim noodles lean a touch salty, the self-serve hot anchovy broth provided on the side works as a perfect palate cleanser between bites. The gyeran-mari (rolled omelette) is made to order and arrives steaming hot, sized roughly like an adult forearm, with a fluffy interior and just the right amount of seasoning to complement the noodles beautifully. Bowls are priced in the 6,000 to 7,000-won range with exceptionally fast service that keeps tables turning quickly, and the regular portion is ample enough that the gobbaegi (large size) is best reserved for big appetites. The ordering process involves claiming a seat first, noting the table number, then paying upfront at the counter, with utensils and bowls available on a self-serve basis. Ample parking is available in front of and beside the restaurant, and a nearby cycling path brings in riders looking for a quick post-ride meal. Visiting on days ending in 2 or 7 coincides with Damyang's five-day market, making it easy to combine a noodle stop with a browse through the local market stalls.
