Songi Beoseot Maeul is a mushroom cuisine restaurant in Yangyang-eup, Gangwon-do, standing out among the area's many pine mushroom establishments for its consistently high quality. The signature songi beoseot jeongol (pine mushroom hot pot) is generously loaded with pine mushroom, infusing the entire broth with their distinctive woodsy fragrance. The seasoning is deliberately understated - gentle and clean rather than assertive - allowing the natural mushroom flavors to take center stage. Various other mushroom varieties join the pot for additional depth, and the chadol jeongshik (beef brisket set) is another popular choice. Side dishes are meticulously prepared, with highlights including pyogo tangsuyuk (shiitake mushroom sweet-and-sour) made from organically grown fresh shiitake, which comes with one complimentary refill. A self-service banchan bar allows diners to help themselves to unlimited refills of various side dishes, most of which are mushroom-based - a paradise for mushroom enthusiasts. The restaurant sits slightly outside central Yangyang, but multiple directional signs along the road make it easy to find, and the parking area is spacious. The large venue is well-suited for family visits, with an outdoor garden area featuring swings and walking paths. The restaurant opens at 11 AM, but guests often begin lining up before opening, so early arrival is recommended.
