Seopjuk Maeul 섭죽마을

Seopjuk Maeul is a mussel cuisine specialty restaurant in Nohak-dong, Sokcho, Gangwon Province, located across from Cheoksan Spa. Originally operating in Daepodong, the restaurant relocated to its current address and has since built a loyal following, with regulars who have been visiting for more than fifteen years. Sokcho-caught mussels serve as the foundation for two signature dishes: mussel porridge and mussel hangover soup. The hangover soup delivers a clean, mildly spicy broth that soothes the stomach with the deep umami of slow-simmered mussels. The porridge is long-cooked to draw out the mussels' natural richness, producing a warm, comforting bowl. Both dishes come in mild and spicy versions, and a clear-broth mussel porridge is also available. From autumn through winter, when mussels are at peak season, the flesh is plump and the broth becomes noticeably more intense. In the off-season, the mussels can be smaller and slightly firmer. Side dishes including fish cake stir-fry and kkakdugi are executed at a high level, and the lightly seasoned squid jeotgal is popular enough that some guests purchase it to take home. A mild porridge option suitable for infants makes this a practical family dining choice, and guests staying at nearby resort properties often stop in for breakfast. Weekends typically draw a wait, so arriving slightly early is worthwhile.
