Sanmaeul 산마을

Sanmaeul is a Korean restaurant near the entrance of Baeronseongji (Baeron Holy Ground) in Bongyang-eup, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. The kitchen uses fresh wild greens grown on-site or sourced locally and seasonal ingredients to serve wholesome mountain-village-style meals. Signature dishes include sanchae bibimbap and gondeure-bap, served with a neat spread of side dishes at approximately 10,000 to 15,000 KRW per person. Grilled deodeok (mountain herb) set, whole chicken baeksuk, and dak-bokkeum-tang (spicy braised chicken) are also popular, with savory side options like gamjajeon (potato pancake) and dotorimuk (acorn jelly) available to round out the table. Dishes requiring longer preparation such as baeksuk should be reserved in advance. The building has the welcoming appearance of a hwangtojip (earthen house), and the interior uses wood furnishings that create a warm, rustic atmosphere; diners can enjoy mountain scenery and views of the Baeron area through the windows. A spacious private parking area in front of the restaurant makes driving convenient, and the holy ground is within walking distance, making it a natural stop before or after a visit. During autumn, the area attracts large crowds for the foliage around Baeronseongji, so wait times may be longer, and the restaurant closes early once ingredients run out, so a phone call ahead is advisable for late afternoon visits.
