Cafe Sum 카페숨

Cafe Sum is a large bakery cafe in Gomori, Soheul-eup, Pocheon, spreading its seating across a main building and an annex facing the forest. Both structures use two floors. Windows extend from floor to ceiling, turning trees, sky, and seasonal foliage into the dominant view inside. Beneath the high ceilings, long tables, window seats, and smaller seating zones are separated by generous gaps. An indoor garden uses stone, low trees, and carefully arranged plants, recalling the order and restraint of a Japanese garden. At a seat close to the glass, the forest fills nearly the entire field of vision. Deeper in the room, ceiling height and plant groupings produce a broader sense of empty space. Moving between the main building and annex changes the angle of the same landscape, with window size and seat direction framing different sections of the woods. A listening room for one or two people is distinct from the conversational seating. Forward-facing chairs, speakers, and a forest view align in one direction, encouraging attention to sound and scenery rather than to a group across the table. The rooftop removes the window frame and opens a wider view of nearby hills and green layers. Low garden plants, taller trees, and the distant ridge become visible at once. Food centers on bread baked in the cafe, coffee, and jujube tea. The bakery display holds browned pastries and softer loaves, supporting either a small sweet plate or a more substantial bread selection. Long-simmered jujube tea has a deep brown color, concentrated fruit pulp, and a viscosity closer to a thin preserve than to clear tea. Its sweetness comes with the dark, earthy flavor of dried fruit. Black coffee adds roasted bitterness against sweet bread. Einspanner places a thick cream layer above coffee, making dairy texture and sugar more pronounced before the darker liquid reaches the palate. These drinks create different visual blocks on the tables: opaque brown jujube tea, black coffee, pale cream, and golden baked dough. The cafe has appeared in the Blue Ribbon Survey, while its strongest physical identity remains the combination of two buildings, a listening room, indoor planting, rooftop, and tall windows. Despite the overall scale, the seats direct attention outward toward trees or forward toward music, keeping the forest and the quiet room at the center of the experience.
