The sign only comes into view after you turn off a narrow passage deep inside Nambu Market, and first-timers often walk right past it. Kongnamul-gukbap, bean sprout rice soup, is the only dish. The choices are heat level (mild, medium or spicy) and whether to add finely chopped squid, and two people sometimes split a single squid add-on between their bowls. Rice comes already in the broth unless you ask for it on the side when ordering. The broth arrives hot but not boiling, ready to eat straight away, and the poached egg gets a splash of broth and crumbled laver. It is a cramped room where sharing a table with strangers is normal.
