Hongseongbang is a Chinese restaurant on Hamo Hanggu-ro in Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju, beloved by both locals and travelers for its generous portions, skilled cooking, and the owner's warm personality. Located near Hamo Port, the restaurant announces itself with a signboard that evokes the feel of a mainland Chinese eatery. The signature haemul jjamppong arrives with a whole flower crab perched on top, creating an immediately striking visual, and the broth delivers a pronounced wok-fired flavor, smoky, layered, and naturally deep rather than artificially bolstered. The heat level is calibrated with pepper and chili at a restrained intensity, making it accessible for most palates. The gogi jjamppong incorporates ginger, a subtle touch that signals refined kitchen technique. Noodles tend to arrive on the softer side, so diners who prefer firmer texture may want to consider ordering jjamppong-bap instead. The tangsuyuk features a mountain of thinly sliced raw onion on top, adding a refreshing crunch without any sharpness, and the sauce strikes a balance between sweet and light without becoming sticky. The chili shrimp uses large prawns, each two to three finger-joints in length, encased in thin, crispy batter, and the chili sauce maintains a precise sweet-sour-spicy equilibrium. Jajangmyeon portions are generous and loaded with seafood. What truly distinguishes the restaurant, however, is the owner's hospitality: complimentary appetizers arrive before the meal, digestive treats follow it, and bone broth or extra side dishes appear unbidden throughout. A party of three ordering chili shrimp, tangsuyuk, and a meal set can expect a total around 60,000 won, remarkably reasonable for Jeju, where dining prices run notoriously high. Reservations are available through Tabling, and peak mealtimes produce waits. Parking in front of the restaurant fits four to five cars at most, so using the public lot near Hamo Port and walking over is the recommended approach.
