Korea House 한국의 집

Korea House is a traditional culture complex in Chungmuro, Jung-gu, Seoul. Opened in 1957 and renovated before reopening in 2026, it brings together hanok architecture, landscaped courtyards, Korean fine dining, royal refreshments, and traditional performing arts. The dining program interprets Joseon royal court cuisine and the food of aristocratic households through seasonal course menus. In the main hall, generous space between tables opens sightlines toward wooden structural details and the garden outside. Soft gayageum music extends the traditional setting without overpowering conversation. Staff dressed in hanbok explain ingredients and the order of the courses, while each dish is arranged with deliberate space across small plates and bowls. Elements that appear in the courses include gujeolpan with separated fillings, white-bean mugwort porridge, chilled lotus-root seafood salad, fish with rice, pan-fried jeon, and fried items. Seasoning tends toward restraint, with sauces providing additional intensity beside the main ingredient. One rice course places fish over grain and adds warm dunggulle tea, bringing rice, seafood, and the roasted herbal aroma of the infusion into the same bowl. The annex provides a more independent hanok setting than the main hall, while the eaves, courtyard, stone paths, and plantings remain visible around the dining spaces. Kohojae, the royal-refreshment program, arranges tea and seasonal sweets on a compact traditional table. Shaved ice, small confectionery, fruit, and other elements shift with the season, emphasizing the visual scale and sequence of the tea service. Traditional dance and music performances extend the complex beyond a restaurant. The central experience is architectural and culinary at once: royal and aristocratic food forms, ceramic tableware, hanbok, timber buildings, garden views, and live or recorded traditional music occupy one compound in central Seoul.
