A single-menu specialist in Sokcho's Jungang Market that has served only gamja-ongsimi (potato dumplings) for over twenty years. Made from potato starch, the ongsimi has a uniquely dense, chewy texture quite different from regular sujebi, with the natural potato flavor intensifying as you chew. The broth is savory, slightly peppery, and thick in the style of kalguksu - each spoonful warming the stomach like a traditional restorative meal. Served in a clay pot, the dish stays piping hot from the first bite to the last, maintaining its temperature throughout. The banchan is modest, but the kkakdugi is genuinely excellent, creating a near-perfect pairing with the broth. Yeolmu-kimchi and seokbakji are also provided. Takeout is not available, making this strictly a dine-in experience - if you want to try it, you will have to visit in person. The interior has been recently renovated for a cleaner look, but the restaurant's popularity means lines of fifteen or more can form even on Sunday mornings. Parking is available at the nearby tourist market lot. Arriving with time to spare is recommended. Ojingeo-sundae (stuffed squid) is also on offer, and ordering it alongside the ongsimi makes for a more varied meal.
