Dongpirang Jeonbok Maeul 동피랑 전복마을

Dongpirang Jeonbok Maeul is an abalone and seafood restaurant on the second floor of the Daepunggwan building on Haesongjeong 2-gil in Tongyeong. Its abalone stone-pot rice set places thick pieces of abalone over rice cooked in a hot stone vessel. Seasoning sauce, seafood pancake, grilled fish, and small side dishes arrive on separate plates. Rice and abalone can be spooned out and mixed with the sauce, while water is added to the toasted rice left on the base of the pot to make nurungji. The abalone porridge set keeps the seafood pancake and grilled fish but changes the central grain dish to soft rice porridge with chopped abalone. Sea squirt bibimbap mixes orange pieces of meongge with rice and vegetables. Raw fish rice bowl uses sliced fish and cho-gochujang, creating a separate raw seafood format rather than repeating the stone-pot preparation. Mulhoe is served in a cold red broth. The assorted version combines sliced fish, abalone, and spear squid, while abalone mulhoe and squid mulhoe narrow the seafood selection. Butter-grilled abalone removes the meat from its shell and browns it with butter, emphasizing a seared surface and chewy center instead of rice or chilled broth. The dining room is a broad second-floor hall with standard tables, and seats toward the windows look over the buildings and streets around Tongyeong harbor. A set tray keeps the hot stone pot, crisp seafood pancake, grilled fish, and cool side dishes in separate vessels. Across the menu, abalone appears as thick pieces over rice, chopped into porridge, chilled in mulhoe, and browned in butter, while sea squirt, fish, and squid retain their own dishes and textures.
