Wonjo Hosu Samgyetang 원조 호수삼계탕

Ground perilla seeds, pine nuts and peanuts thicken the broth of the deulkkae samgyetang (chicken soup with perilla) until it is almost porridge-like, yet the perilla flavor stays mild enough for people who usually avoid it. The chicken is firm and arrives very hot. Long-cut cucumbers and green chilies come to the table with a sweet-spicy house gochujang, a sharp contrast to the nutty soup. With only one dish on the menu, food comes out quickly, and seating includes both shoes-off floor tables and regular tables. Lines get very long around the summer boknal days, and parking out front holds only a few cars, though a free lot in a nearby building runs a shuttle.
