Once the residence where pioneering writer Lee Tae-jun composed his works, this Seoul Folk Cultural Heritage site now serves as the city's first traditional teahouse. Since 1998, the author's granddaughter has maintained the hanok at 8 Seongbuk-ro 26-gil in Seongbuk-dong, preserving its mountain-retreat atmosphere. Suyeonsanbang offers seating in the main house, annex, or wooden veranda overlooking a manicured garden. During summer, incense coils are provided for outdoor seating. The signature patbingsu focuses on the natural flavor of red beans over heavy sugar. Sweet pumpkin and milk versions use 100% pure milk for a consistent texture. Traditional beverages include chilled omija tea with ice shavings and warm ssanghwa-cha. One order per guest is required with a two-hour seating limit. Complimentary Korean sweets accompany each order. While prices are higher and coffee is unavailable, the heritage building experience is unique. Parking on-site is limited to five spaces, making public lots a practical alternative on weekends. Afternoon waits often exceed 20 minutes, so immediate waitlist registration is advisable.
