Sinpung Nakji is a large-scale octopus restaurant in Daerim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, occupying an entire building — a testament to its enduring popularity, with locals joking that the business built the building on octopus alone. The first floor serves as a parking area and waiting space, while the second and third floors house the dining rooms. The signature stir-fried nakji (small octopus) carries a gentle wok-fired smokiness with a spice level that remains lively without becoming aggressive, keeping chopsticks in constant motion. The plump, long tentacles offer an impressive texture that is simultaneously bouncy and tender, and tasting the nakji here makes the difference from ordinary restaurant versions immediately apparent. A self-service bar provides unlimited oi-naengguk (chilled cucumber soup), plain sundubu, and salad, allowing diners to whet their appetites before the main course. The kongnamul muchim (seasoned bean sprouts) is also well-seasoned. The nakji-deopbap (octopus rice bowl) arrives with rice and octopus served separately — the intended method is to cut the octopus over the rice and mix everything together. Those sensitive to spice can mix just the octopus with rice, adding sauce and vegetables incrementally to taste. The nakji-haemul-pajeon is available but some find it on the oily side. Single-serving orders are accepted, which is welcome for solo diners, though the absence of two-person tables can make solo visits slightly awkward during busy periods. Substantial waits develop during lunch and weekends, so timing a visit slightly outside the rush is advisable. Parking is available with a dedicated attendant on site. The restaurant also demonstrates flexibility by accepting phone orders near last-order time, allowing late arrivals to dine at a relaxed pace.
