Sanmotungi 산모퉁이

Sanmotungi is a hilltop cafe perched on the slopes of Buam-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, widely known as a filming location for the 2007 hit drama Coffee Prince. In the series, the cafe appeared as the home of the character Han-sung, played by the late actor Lee Sun-kyun, and autographs from the cast along with actual props used during filming are displayed inside and in the garden. Situated on the path ascending toward Bugaksan, the rooftop terrace commands an unobstructed panorama of Inwangsan's ridgeline, the Seoul Fortress Wall, and the city center, and this view constitutes the cafe's principal draw. Seating spans from the basement level to the second floor, with each level offering a distinct perspective and atmosphere. The coffee itself is serviceable rather than exceptional, with Americano priced at 8,000 won and most other drinks in the 9,000 to 10,000 won range, above typical Seoul cafe pricing but understandable as a premium for the scenery. A common point of criticism is that beverages are served in disposable paper cups, which feels incongruent with the price tier. A small parking area exists but space is tight, making public transportation the preferred option. Walking from the nearest stop involves a short uphill stretch. Weekday visits allow free choice of seating, while weekends and clear-weather days draw larger crowds. The visitor demographic skews toward those aged 50 and above, though the space suits couples and families equally well. Some vegetation around the cafe could be better maintained to avoid partially obstructing the view, yet the sense of openness and calm that the broad sightline delivers remains intact.
