Krappom is a Thai restaurant occupying a basement space along the Apgujeong Rodeo backstreets in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The name means "yes, sir" in Thai, and the interior lives up to that local spirit with a mural depicting Thai street-food scenes spanning an entire wall. Three dishes define the menu. The beef pho delivers a rich, deeply flavored Thai-style broth paired with meltingly tender sliced beef, with noodle thickness available in medium or thin. The khao kha moo (braised pork leg over rice) features pork so soft it yields to a spoon, dressed with a savory sauce that creates an eating experience entirely distinct from Korean-style jokbal. The laab saep uses boiled pork spine tossed in a fermented-fish-paste dressing that balances sweet and sour, served in a generous portion meant for two. Somtam provides a sharp, spicy-sour counterpoint that effectively cuts through the richness of the meat courses, and the morning glory stir-fry carries genuine wok-fired smokiness. The tom yum kung is prepared in a thick, concentrated style and shows high execution. Soju is available alongside the Thai menu, enabling an unusual but popular pairing. Prices are reasonable by Apgujeong standards, and portions are generous. Seating is limited, however, making waits of 40 minutes or more standard around 6 PM. The restaurant requires all party members to be present before seating and enforces a two-hour dining limit. Food preparation speed is relatively fast once seated. Cilantro and spice levels run higher here than at many Thai restaurants in Seoul, a point for those sensitive to aromatics to keep in mind.
