Gyodong Dawon is a traditional Korean tea house tucked along a quiet back alley of Jeonju Hanok Village, preserving the authentic atmosphere of a well-maintained hanok that has been in operation for many years. The signature hwangcha (yellow tea) is made from 50-percent-fermented leaves, producing a smooth, clean flavor without the astringency of green tea or the intensity of black tea. For around 5,000 won per person, guests receive a thermos of hot water and a traditional tea set, allowing multiple steepings of the same leaves in a leisurely self-guided tea ceremony. Accompaniments include black sesame yanggaeng, yakgwa, and gureum-seolgi (cloud rice cake), all thoughtfully paired with the tea. The owner provides careful guidance on tea types and brewing methods, recommending a selection based on personal taste preferences when asked. The main hanok building features traditional floor seating, while a separate annex offers chair seating for those who find sitting on the floor uncomfortable. Soft 1980s and 90s Korean pop and Western music plays gently in the background, enhancing the contemplative mood. The space has drawn attention from international visitors for its genuine hanok character and serene setting, with some noting the absence of foreign-language reviews means it remains relatively undiscovered among tourists. Located a block away from the main tourist thoroughfare, Gyodong Dawon offers a reprieve from the crowds typical of Hanok Village. Entry is restricted to middle school age and above, so families with younger children will need to plan accordingly.
