OTSAL is an Indian restaurant on the basement level of 164 Gwanak-ro, about 250 meters from Seoul National University Station. It has operated in the area since the early 2010s, with Indian cooks preparing curry, tandoori meat, naan, biryani, and vegetarian dishes. Tandoori chicken is marinated with yogurt and spices, threaded onto a skewer, and cooked over high heat. The cooked skewer is brought to the table and divided onto plates. Areas exposed directly to heat carry charred aroma, while thicker meat holds the spiced marinade. Curries use a thick consistency with relatively little free liquid, and the heat level can be adjusted when ordering. Lamb curry emphasizes meat aroma. Vegetarian curries build body from beans, vegetables, and spices. Naan is large enough to plan around one piece per person. Curry includes rice, and additional rice is provided. Pairing chicken tikka with biryani combines grilled chicken and spiced rice without requiring a second curry. Set menus for two or three begin with a yogurt drink, continue through curry, chicken, naan, and salad, and finish with tea and ice cream. Dessert does not arrive automatically and is requested after the savory dishes are finished. The set fixes several components from the start. À la carte ordering instead adjusts curry type, naan count, and the quantity of tandoori meat. A vegetarian table may combine meat-free curry, naan, and rice and keep the order separate from grilled meat plates.
