Daraktu 다락투

A dakgomtang (chicken bone soup) and dak-kalguksu (chicken knife-cut noodle soup) specialist on Wausan-ro in Mapo-gu, with roots stretching back over 40 years to the old Seogyo Market era. Originally called 'Darak,' the restaurant was renamed 'Daraktu' after relocating to its current alley address. The kitchen boils fresh whole chickens daily and hand-tears the meat, producing a clean, clear broth with no gamey off-notes. The dakgomtang arrives with a generous pile of chicken and rice already in the bowl, notably, the rice grains hold their texture without becoming mushy over time. A dollop of red seasoning paste sits on top; mixing it in transforms the mild broth into a pleasantly spicy version. The dak-kalguksu features wheat noodles boiled until the broth thickens to an almost soup-like consistency, and adding the seasoning paste creates a deep, warming heat without excessive spiciness. All kimchi and kkakdugi are house-made with domestic ingredients, and while the banchan lineup is simple, each item complements the soup well. Portions are generous, rice is served heaped high regardless of the diner, and the restaurant opens at 8 AM for early meals. Takeout and delivery are not offered in order to maintain food quality. The space is kept noticeably clean, and staff are consistently attentive. When prices increase, the restaurant maintains portion sizes and quality rather than cutting back.
