Seolseong Sikdang is a yeontan bulgogi (charcoal briquette-grilled bulgogi) and baekban restaurant in Byeongyeong-myeon, Gangjin-gun, South Jeolla Province. The restaurant gained nationwide recognition through a recommendation by Professor Yu Hong-jun and carries forward the culinary tradition of Byeongyeong bulgogi, which traces its origins to the Joseon Dynasty when the local military commander reportedly served grilled pork to welcome his uncle, the county magistrate. Upon receiving a queue number and entering an assigned room, diners find a table set for two, with additional settings added per person. The centerpiece is yeontan bulgogi grilled over charcoal briquettes, accompanied by upwards of thirty namdo-style banchan that fill the table without a gap. Distinctive South Jeolla specialties such as marinated soy crab, fermented skate, and dried yellow corvina feature prominently among the side dishes. The bulgogi carries a genuine smoky char from the yeontan, and wrapping it in lettuce with raw onion makes two bowls of rice disappear easily. At 13,000 won per person, the sheer volume and quality of the spread represents exceptional value, a point on which nearly all visitors agree. The surrounding area forms an entire yeontan bulgogi alley with multiple competing restaurants, yet Seolseong Sikdang draws the largest crowds. Seating is traditional floor-style in small rooms, and sharing a room with strangers may be necessary during busy periods. Weekend waits of forty minutes to over an hour are standard; arriving at the 11 AM opening or calling ahead the day before to check reservation availability cuts the queue significantly. Restroom facilities are limited to three units beside the parking lot, which can feel strained during peak season.
