Sarangbang Sikdang 사랑방식당

Mixed bulbaek, half spicy squid and half spicy pork, is stir-fried at the table in a bright red sauce that turns out more sweet-hot than fiery. When the meat is gone, radish salad, seasoned bean sprouts, seaweed flakes and sesame oil go into the leftover sauce for bibimbap or fried rice; match the rice to the amount of sauce, since too much rice leaves it bland. The rolled omelet is thick with vegetables, and the fried squid is more squid than batter. Started in Yeongwol in 1982 and now run by the third generation, it also has a shop in the basement of the Royal Building in Gwanghwamun.
