Chadori Garden 차도리가든

Every part of the chicken goes onto a wire grill over charcoal, which sets Gwangyang-style grilled chicken apart from Chuncheon's charcoal dakgalbi. The restaurant has run for more than 20 years, dating back to its days in Jinteuljae before moving to its current spot in Okryong-myeon. The marinade looks like a clear doenjang glaze yet tastes closer to a rich galbi seasoning, and the heat level is set when ordering. Without brining, the chicken stays clean-tasting with a light smoky edge. Most of the side dishes are kimchi of various kinds, chosen to go with the meat. Dak-yukhoe, raw chicken dressed with sesame oil and sauce, is on the menu too, and a pale chicken porridge closes the meal. The house makgeolli suits the grill, and the restaurant sits up a country road toward Okryong Valley, convenient before or after a Baegunsan outing.
